IN THE DOCUMENTARY “THE FORGOTTEN LIBERATION,” EYEWITNESSES TALK ABOUT THE DRAMATIC EVENTS THAT UNFOLDED ON BORNHOLM DURING THE END OF WORLD WAR II.

The island was liberated by Russian soldiers, who later left Bornholm after 11 months of occupation. In the days before the arrival of the Russians, however, Rønne and Nexø were subjected to heavy bombardment, which meant that over 3000 Bornholmers wound up without a roof over their heads.

The Forgotten Liberation was broadcast for the first time on DR – K on the 70th anniversary of the Russians final departure from the island which was on Tuesday April 5th, 2016.
